A small tool for the work of running a home
Steadings started as a meal planner. It kept growing, because the meal plan turned out to be tangled up with the shopping, and the shopping with what was already in the freezer, and all of it with who had time this week.
Why it exists
Most household software is built for one person to organise themselves. That is a different problem. Running a home with other people is mostly coordination: knowing the same things, at the same time, without one person holding it all and reminding everyone else.
That invisible work has a way of settling on whoever notices first. The goal here is narrow: put the shared parts of a household somewhere everyone can see, so that noticing is not a job one person does.
Who it is for
Right now, couples and shared flats. Two to six people who already coordinate through some combination of a group chat, a shared calendar, a notes app and a whiteboard, and would rather it lived in one place.
Families with young kids are not the focus yet. The coordination is genuinely harder there, and it would be a worse product for trying to serve everyone at once. That may change once the simpler case works properly.
Where it is right now
Steadings is in beta. Real households use it daily, and the six main parts of it work, but it is young and you will find rough edges. We onboard households one at a time, by hand, so that we can actually help each one get set up and hear what breaks.
It is free while the beta runs. Paid plans will come, and beta households will hear about it well before anything changes.
Who is behind it
One person, in Switzerland. There is no company behind Steadings and no investors, which is worth knowing in both directions: decisions are quick and nobody is being optimised for engagement, but it is also one person's time.
Support is by email at hello@steadings.ch. Expect a reply within about two business days. That is a best effort rather than a guarantee, and saying so seems better than pretending to a service level that does not exist yet.
What we do with your data
A household's contents belong to that household. Steadings does not sell data, does not run advertising, and this marketing site sets no cookies and runs no analytics at all. What the app itself stores, why, and for how long is written out in the privacy policy.
