Terms of use
Steadings is in beta and free to use. These terms are short on purpose, because there is not much to agree about yet.
Who you are agreeing with
Steadings is operated by Moritz Braukhoff, a private individual in Switzerland. Using the service means accepting what is written here. If you do not accept it, please do not use the service.
What the service is right now
Steadings is beta software, provided free of charge. It is used by real households daily, but it is young, it changes often, and it may contain faults. Access is granted by invitation while the beta runs.
There is nothing to buy. We do not take payment details and there is no subscription. If paid plans arrive later, they will be introduced with notice and will not silently start charging an existing account.
Your account
You need an account to use the service. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us at hello@steadings.ch if you think someone else has got into your account. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.
A household is shared by design. Anyone you invite into your household can see and change what is in it, so invite people accordingly.
Your content stays yours
What you put into Steadings belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it. We store and process it only to run the service for you, as described in the privacy policy. We do not sell it, mine it for advertising, or use it to train machine learning models.
Reasonable use
Please do not:
- use the service for anything illegal, or to store content you have no right to store;
- attempt to reach another household's data, or probe the service for weaknesses without asking first;
- disrupt the service for other people, including by automated hammering of the API;
- resell or rent access to the service.
If you find a security problem, please tell us at hello@steadings.ch before telling anyone else. That is genuinely appreciated and will not be treated as an attack.
What we do not promise
This is the honest part. Steadings is provided as it is, without warranty. During the beta there is no guaranteed uptime, no guaranteed support response time, and no guarantee that a given feature will keep working or keep existing. Support is best effort by email, usually within about two business days.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. We take backups and we take care, but a free beta run by one person is not a suitable system of record for something critical.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost data. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for intent or gross negligence.
Ending it
You can stop using Steadings whenever you like and ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@steadings.ch. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken in a way that affects other people or the service itself, and we will say why when we do.
The beta itself will end at some point. If that means the service changes materially or shuts down, we will give notice and a way to get your data out.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, we will tell you by email rather than quietly editing this page.
Law
Swiss law applies, and the ordinary Swiss courts have jurisdiction. If you use Steadings as a consumer, this does not remove the protections of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
